I'd like to add an invert to my tank that cleans the surface sand. I've heard sea slugs are good for this, but I don't care to see my tank poisoned. Suggestions?

How about some kind of sand sifting goby?

I went with the Nassarius snails. Thanks guys, you've both been VERY helpful in this endeavor.

I'm sure the snails were the easiest to find.

Actually, I found some really cool gobies, but they all wanted either a refugium, a bigger tank or special feeding. I'll likely still get a sand sifting goby when I start putting corals, anemones and less hardy fish into the tank.

Does anyone know if a Nassarius snail would have any problems with a hermit crab?

Not in my experience, I have both Blue Legs and Scarlets. One caveat is that I don't allow them to become overly large. I trade them out for smaller crabs as time goes on.
