one comes from the red sea the des.
and the other comes from the pacific.
that and the looks are the only difference

Desjardin's Sailfin Tang. Seeing this fish and Z. veliferum at the same time might cause you to do a double take; they are very similar in color and markings. Desjardin's Tang comes to the trade mainly from the Indian Ocean or Red Sea, so one way to distinguish it is by source locale (or cost). It also has a few less soft dorsal and anal fin rays (28,29D and 22-24A versus 29-33D and 23-26A for the Pacific Sailfin) if you can get yours to hold still. Actually, the easiest discernible difference is the markings on the tail. The Pacific is white, yellow and gray banded, and Desjardin's is dark with whitish yellow spots. Juvenile below. Currently considered the same species as Z. veliferum by some authorities.

Would the Desjardinii Sailfin Tang need a higher salinity since it is from the red sea?

i would assume no since it is being kept in the average salinity during shipping.
red sea is only 4% higher then average
so instead of 1.026 its 1.027

the salinty of the indian ocean varies
    1.024-1.028

I came across a website that showed these two pics. The first as a sailfin tang juvenile and the second a sailfin tang adult. Is this site giving me the correct info and do they change that much. I am familiar with the first pic as being a sailfin tang and if this is the case does the Desjardinii Sailfin Tang go through this morph as well. The site I got this info from is ........ Sailfin Tang

I've never seen an adult with that much blue.

EDIT: The second reference is more accurate of your typical Sailfin.

Thats what I thought the first set had me confused. What kind of tang is the second pic of. I just can't see that one being a sailfin but maybe I am wrong.
