Hello everyone. I have a quick question for you all. I recently started back up with a 29 gallon Biocube reef tank. I have an RODI unit that I used with my previous tank. I am wondering if I can start reusing it like I never left off or if I need to replace all of the filters. They have been sitting indoors in a controlled room temperature for about 6 months with nothing running through them over this time. The filters currently in the unit have not been used much.

If it was not stored with water in it the membrane and the di cartridge will probably need to be replaced. Keeping two closed valves on each pipe (inlet/outlet)while full of water (pressurized)is the proper way to store it so the membrane /di does not dry out.

You probably need to replace everything but you can also check first by operating the system and monitoring the tap water, RO only and final RO/DI TDS. Both the RO membrane and DI resin are damaged when they are allowed to dry out but as Vinny mentioned, if they were still full of water at least the RO membrane may still be usable is it is working efficiently. If the membrane isn't at least say 95-96% rejection rate then I would scrap it and start over.
If you do bring the system back to life, either with new or old filters, make sure you disinfect the system before using any of the treated water. You may find the cost of total replacement filters, membrane and DI exceeds or matches the cost of a new reef quality system which can be purchased for around $125. Test your membrane first though, today might be your lucky day.

Tds test to determine if di resin & membrane is good ...I have the best price on filter packs...If I were you I would buy from I have better deals and this quarter I am including a senno TDS meter on orders >$40. Plus save an additional 10% with your reef club code.
