    if i get some limestone from a local rock quarry is this alright to use for LR in a tank?

    Sure, just make sure it is sterile before placing in the tank. I usually soak in a bleach solution for several hours and then in a dechlorinator for a day or so. I would use it for base rock only, but that's just me. (probably not going to look very natural)
