River rock in a reef tank?

    I was wondering if you can put a river rock in a reef tank. I would like a nice smooth rock to put my GSP on .. That way I can peel it off easily for fragging.
    I think it's a no go but just wandering.

    My guess is that it's silicate based, although it could be limestone. I wouldn't do it for aesthetics and you don't know what could happen.

    you could try coating it in epoxy but you never know

    Or you could get a small rubbermaid container, try to cycle with the riverrock in it. See what happens with the tests. Epoxy is a great idea though.

    try soaking it in RO/DI water for a day or 2 to see if it leaches anything, also drip a few drops of vinigar on it to see if it fizzes

    That seems like a waste, you still can't be sure it won't affect your tank in some way, I would much rather be safe then sorry. After all of the time and money in our investments.

    maybe you could use a peice of glass or acrylic

    mine only took a couple weeks
