Hello. Once the nitrogen cycle completes and the water change occurs to bring the nitrates down, do we replace the water with saltwater, or simply a 1 to 1 replacement with RO/DI, not needing to add salt to it?

You always need to keep your salinity stable within your DT to much fluctuation of any thing is not good for our small piece of the ocean. I like mine at 1.025 but somewhere between 1.024 and 1.026 is good IMO. With that said, any time you do a water change out you'll need to replace it with pre-mixed salt water of the same salinity as your DT. I have my RODI fill a food grade bin and then add a pump to mix the salt before I add it to my system. The only time you add fresh RODI directly into your system is for top off, the water evaporates but the salt does not. An ATO is best to maintain a steady balance.
