    hi all have bought a second hand reef tank with inverts and 3xfish can anyone tell me the test levels that are safe for a reef tank i know all the results for tropical as i have been doing that for years but i wanted to get a reef tank for years and have finally taken the plunge so i dont want to mess it up many thanks

    here are some approximate numbers..
    Temp.- 76-82
    salinity - 1.023-1.026
    ammonia- 0ppm
    nitrite- 0ppm
    nitrate- <10ppm (some people prefer to have some nitrates, some see 0 as ideal)
    phosphate- <.25ppm
    ph-8-8.4
    dkh - 7-12
    Mg 1400ppm
    Ca - 420-500ppm

    these are all ranges or approximations, some people prefer to have higher or lower levels. These are considered safe ranges, but that does not mean that having a higher reading is necessarily bad.
