Reef Safe Starfish for 29g ??

    Wondering if there is any reef safe starfish, that would be capable of living in a 29g biocube reef tank? Thanks!::)

    Starfish are good for your tank the eat all the extra stuff a good rule of thumb for a reef safe starfish is if it has "horns" i call them, but if there pointy on the top of there body stay away they will eat your reef lol

    Leighton's speaking in broken sentences. lol...I think he is referring to a chocolate chip starfish. It is non-reef safe. :)

    I am thinking about an orange sea star for my 29. It only gets 3", and is pretty colorful.

    Brittle stars are usually a good choice as well.

    Do the Orange starfish sometimes also get sold as a red star?

    Yes, it does also go by Red Sea Star, so you would need to know the scientific name. While similar in appearance, the Echinaster and Red Linkia are totally different animals. Some smaller Fromia species are also suitable. Whichever one you choose, it will most likely require occasional target feedings.

    I would try to avoid any linkias. They are still not 100% sure what they eat and have a very short life span in the home aquarium. One of those creatures best left for the sea IMO. Fromia stars are a good candidate for you, but with your tank being on the smaller side, occasional feeding to supplement it would probably do it well.
