I'm wanting better lighting for my fuge. The compact fluorescent light is out performed by my kessils. My fuge light is on 12 hours, DT lights for 5. I'm thinking red/white LEDs because I've read that red light helps plants grow. Any thoughts on this? For a few weeks I tried one kessil over the fuge. The cheto algae grew fast and thick, while all hair algae in the DT disappeared.

I don't think the red is needed. For land plants the red is for flowering.

Red is indeed the correct color but mixed with blues not white.;)

I have one of these and have seen more growth then I had with cfl.
I actually had to raise the fixture when I installed it because it was burning everything on my ATS.(EXCEPT CYANO LOL)

There is a good article somewhere here about why red is the best.I will try to find it.

Use a 4:1 ratio of Deep red (680nm) and Royal blues

I just got the Reefbreeders fuge light for the same reason, looking for better lighting to outcomoete the DT lights. Haven't had it long enough to comment on effectiveness yet. Just picked up new chaeto today.

Would you mind posting results and review when you have a change in your system?

I also have a LED grow light over the fuge with one of those cheap clip-on reflectors from Home Depot. It grows cheato like crazy.

I love how you never stop learning in this hobby. Lesson for today.... my iPhone will take longer to focus on the bulb than my eyes should be looking at it.

    MARCO!!!
