Plumbing cement?

    When it comes to the plumbing, will any pvc cement do, or should i use a certain type made for this purpose, if so which do you suggest

    They're all inert once fully dried, if that's what you mean.

    Yup, as a general rule anything that is meant for potable water is safe for our plumbing. Just make sure it says potable safe.

    I use exclusively Christy's Hot Blue. The stuff glues all types of PVC, including flex, and is rock solid.

    If you mix and match schedule 40/80 they do make a cement that is for both. Not sure if it's really necessary but they do make different glue for each.

    i used Christy's Red Hot Purple Primer then used Christy's Hot Blue pvc glue on my aquarium

    It should be fine.

    Yes, you must use the cleaner/primer. PVC is impervious to glue; the primer softens the surface so the glue can make a solid, leak-proof bond. Make sure you position your fittings correctly. You will only have a couple of seconds to readjust before the glue sets.

    If you use Oatey rain or shine you don't need primer. It actually softens the pvc as it bonds. It's great stuff, bright blue. That's I used when I worked for Palm Bay utilities for all the plumbing. I plumbed all my tanks with it.
