Does the diet of a pleco consist entirely of algae or can it be a bottom feeder much llike a catfish ?

I dont believe there are any fish that are truely comepletey herbivorous. They all eat meat given the opportunity too....

Even the whale shark that was believed to eat nothing but plankton for years until Sir David filmed one eating a school of fish!

Plecos can not solely survive on algae, they eat all the little bits of fish flake and what not that is left at the bottom of your tank. They'll eat anything really, just like most freshwater fish.
