Hello! I got this 5" purple clam today from a friend. He said it was a Deresa clam. It was attached to his rockwork by two small filaments. Here are some pics. Could you please help me ID this?
    Thank you

Looks like a crocea, but I can't tell you for sure without some closer pictures. Can you get a closeup of the intake and the side of the shell?

Either T. crocea or T. maxima...my guess is crocea from what I can see...the easiest way to tell them apart is crocea has a nearly smooth shell and maxima has much larger protruding scutes.

Definitely crocea based on the new photos.

Smoking is most likely spawning...is this a brand new clam? The stress of being moved and new water params often make them spawn.

Crocea is a rock boring clam...so they prefer to be on rock vs. sand/subtrate...I always suggest placing on a smaller piece of rock to allow the clam to attatch...once attached you can move the clam and rock easily as needed without disturbing the clam...trying to remove a clam once attached can damage the clam.

What type of lighting do you have?...blue crocea are one of the highest light animals we keep.
