Here's a picture of my plant tank. I finally picked up a digital camera. Here are the specs:

    AGA 20 hex
    100watt heater
Whisper hang on filter w/ Sechem Matrix and Seachem Purigen as media
    Pea gravel
    14 watt NO bulb

    Here's a plant list:
    Onion plant
    Java moss
    Java fern
    Anubias Congensis
    Anubias Barteri
    Anubias Nana

There are 15 Emperor Tetras and 1 Botia Striatia, and in case your wondering there is no Co2 or additives being added to the aquarium. So it just goes to prove if you pick the rite plants you can grow plants under many different circumstances. So far the reef to plant switch on the 75 is going perfect. It is up and running and full of plants. As Soon as it finishes clearing up I'll post some pictures. Anyway let me know what you think about the 20.

That looks really nice! So those are plants that grow under lower light conditions? I helped my best friend set up a freshie and she asked me about plants but I thought you needed special setups...
What else would we need? I can give her a dual light strip..it is a 30 gallon or like 25...I forget which.

How much wattage would she have with the dual strip light? Also, what color are the bulbs. With two bulbs she could probably grow moderate light plants as well if the fixture has reflectors if not you will want to stick with low light plants. Here is a small list of a few low light plants:

    Microsorium pteropus(Java Fern)
    Lemna minor(duckweed)
    Anubias barteri
    Anubias nana
    Anubias congensis
    Cryptocoryne wendtii
    Cryptocoryne lutea
    Spathiphyllum wallisii

that looks like a well-thought-out plant setup. small ones in front, tall ones in the back. nice!

how long has the tank been running? i hear that the plants will eventually die if you don't pump in any CO2....

The tank has been running for about 3 years now. Co2 is not a necessity, but it sure helps. I run yeast sugar mix in my 75 and don't run any on the 20 hex. Most of the plants in the hex are easy to care for and don't really require Co2.
