I have one piranha in a 55 gal and he is 6", I would like to upgrade to a 150 gal. I would use a small pool pump as the drive for the filtration so that would not be an issue. I want to have a school of fish to drive a feeding frenzy. How many fish would you recommend for a 150 gal?

I am not sure if you can get any more legally without a US Fish and Game licensing. And you may not be able to get any then. You will also need an exotic pet license from your home state if they will issue one for piranha.

Did they just make that law. My LFS has them for 6.99 per.

Been that way for several years to the best of my knowledge. I doubt they are true piranha then. You would be paying much more if they were.

The one in the pic looks like a true red belly. I don't know I have never had a biologist or vet give a true ID. I am interested now.

It does look like it. You might want to look up piranha imports to the US.

Not sure about what type of fish that is but I can tell you there are concerns about piranhas in the US. The Lake of Ozarks in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in Missouri is an enormous lake. Several thousand miles of shoreline I believe. Kids fishing on docks have been catching piranhas. Not good.
