I have had a sudden crop of "somethings" behind powerheads, under rock overhangs, and other low-flow areas. They are from 1/32"-1/16" long, white, with an egg shaped base ending in a few tentacles that fan out like a duster rather than wave like a tube anemone.
The peppermint completely ignores them, as does everything else. They are not responsive to light nor touch, and seem spongy rather than slimy.

The pineapple sponge ID seems closest, but I can't find any info as to whether or not to nuke them:

I have them all over my tank and overtaking my sump. They are a great thing. The are filter feeders and help clean the water.
