My tank ammonia reading is 0.050 after four days. I will check again tonight. I take a reading every other day. It took four days to get a no3/4 reading of 0.050. My question is ,when can I remove the stinky shrimp? Do they have to remain through out the cycling process?

You can remove it. Keep on testing and watch to make sure the cycle does not stall.

    Awesome profile pick. :sneaky:

+1 Just keep in mind that once you begin to see Nitrates a new food source will be necessary to keep the bacteria alive.;)

    LOL now that was naughty.:cheesy:

Any who, once you start to see some nitrates you'll need to provide a source of decay to maintain and establish the beneficial bacteria.

Livestock should only be added after you have no detectable ammonia and nitrites.

Confused. If the rotting shrimp start the cycling process by increasing the NH3/4 which turns into NO2 and then NO3 in abundance ,50% water change, check parameters and add fish. Seems if you add only fish food you would start the cycling process over again. Not sure what step I'm missing?

Food will rot and produce more ammonia to feed that stage of bacteria. Adding a fish will do the same thing.
If the tank has gone through the Ammonia and nitrite stage I would just get a little fish.
