Heat? Even w/ the lighting adequately spaced above the tank? What do you do to cool your tank?

Matt, even though I've spent a lot of $$$ on this hobby, it will never compare to how much $$$ I spend on...I mean "WITH" my girlfriend ::).

A reef tank is great, but you can't "snuggle" with it ;).

250 watts gives you more options as Matt pointed out!

I would also agree with 250w more options and availability.
As for too much light....only if it heats up your tank . Im running 3 400w 10k on a 135g and it goes up 3 degrees by the end of the day which is not to bad.But i did have to redo my canopy (taller)

Nautilus, I replaced girlfriend 7.2 to girlfriend 8.1x about a yr ago. Still going well, but may need to install some accessories to maintain 8.1x. Next planned upgrade is a cruise. Should bring her up to girlfriend 8.2. No plans to move to 9.0, but there's always the possiblity of girlfriend 8.2 to upgrade to boyfriend 5.0 :p.

Yeah even with space. MH lamps crank out the heat. I use fans, have a semi-open top and my chiller just came in the mail yesterday! Can't wait to set it up.

I'll have 2 fans going in the canopy w/ a 12" space between the aquarium and the lighting.

What chiller did you get and if I may ask, what did it set you back $$$? I hear they're really expensive.

That's a good amount of space, should help.

I got the Coolworks IceProbe Chiller with Controller.

It's only good for nano tanks though. Since I have about 15 gallons of water volume, should be fine. It's a lot bigger than I thought and really high tec looking.

I have two fans and open spaces in the top. A swamp cooler vent very close by for those hot summer days. Mine stays right at 80 degrees.
