I am about to purchase a 24"x16"x8" frag tank to use a a frag bank and display tank in my computer room. I will be keeping LPS, softies, and some low light SPS. Would two of the PAR38 4-Royal 3-White be enough to light this tank? Should I get 60 or 80 degree optics?

If it were just LPS and softies I'd say it would be enough light, but with the SPS that makes me a bit more nervous. However, since they're low light if all they require is the same amount of light as other LPS then I'd think it should be okay. Since the tank is only 8" deep I'd go with the 80's, unless you're planning on putting the lights more than about 12-15" above the tank.

The SPS will be some montis, so not very light demanding. I would have them about 8"-12" above the surface of the water.

The 80 degree lenses should work just fine for your tank.

And what if he were to add some light demanding Acro's? What suggestions then?

    I'm just curious ;)

I'd say at least 1 more PAR38, if not more.

I may wind up getting a 24"x20"x8" tank, what would you recommend for those dimensions?

Sorry this is so late, for some reason I never got the notification. At any rate, I'd go with 3 of the PAR38's on a tank that size. 4 wouldn't be overkill either but may not be necessary.

I am in no rush. I will be using track lighting so I can move and angle the bulbs exactly how I want them. I think I will purchase two to start then move to a 3rd when I have the funds for it. Thank you for the information.
