And there is a peninsula 190g in his bedroom that has some crazy acans and nice SPS in it that did not have a picture taken of it as well.

I think he has just shy of 2000g of SW reef tanks and frag tanks.

His system is crazy, but many guys in our club have some sweet setups.

If to look at the HUGE frag tank, it has a few of these drain lines with gutter guard like I mentioned. The first one I posted is his newest frag tank.

    Those are some impressive systems.

You are a lucky guy to have locals like that. I am the only one within 60 miles that does SPS. Kinda sucks

What does he do with all those frags?

He sells to Fosters and Smith (mostly for BTA's), and hits all the frag swaps as well.

This is still a hobby to him, but he manages to have a building company as well for residential homes.

Whats the point to a dursostand pipe? Wouldnt it just be better to have a straight pipe and a drain screen?

Both ways would work, but a durso is known to be quieter.

So its not a siphon because of the air hole on the top?

If you mean the durso, then yes. Either way, there is no siphon, it is gravity/ waterfall type fed by more water being pumped into the tank, and the excess being sent down the drains.

See that is why the external overflow boxes with U tubes or other siphons are prone to failure. if that siphon loses, well, siphon, the water goes over the rim of the tank and all over the floor. The drilled type overflows won't ever have that issue, if you have a back up and check for cloggage form time to time..

A "back up" is a clog, or an obstruction in the pipe. :)
