If you have one, where do you keep it?

I hear that high up turns it all red and the lower it is, the greener it gets. experiences anyone?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I keep mine high in the tank under a 14k MH, mod to low flow. It has gone through many color changes. Currently it is more reddish with a green under tone. It has good polyp extension at night and the photo period is 5 hours. I included 2 pictures they are about 3 months apart and you can see the color change as well as the growth. I look forword to seeing others experinces with this sps, because it is one of my favorites.

I have two frags that were labeled ora red planet one looks to be an encrusting coral other more of a typical branching acro. Neither one looks like that though. The branching is more of a pinker color(bout 2/3 up) and the encrusting is like a mint color maybe(towards the bottom). I can take picture if you like.

It is a six month old Phoenix. I cut back on the photo period, and I got better growth and color, just a silly experiment. No dosing, no skimmer, nothing but a chiller and w/c. I may try some carbon dosing another silly experiment.;D

I keep mine up high, but I haven't had it long enough to tell you what that does to its color.

hmm well reducing photo period is actually a myth, no benefits for short halide time. skimmer is important to remove DOC... you will see a great increase in colors with effective skimming.
growth is more dictated by constant level of dkh and ca. low phosphates also determine how fast growth is.

unless you want to slowly kill your tank, do not carbon dose without a skimmer

Carbon dose? ? Like vodka? Or like a reactor with pellets??
