Almost forgot to ask for opinions; what type/depth of sandbed should I put in my 20gal Fuge??

    Thanks,

I have a 4" aragonite DSB in my refugium.  FWIW!

I was thinking of doing a half and half (coarser on bottom, finer on top). Sound ok?

The smaller the sand grain size, the more surface area for denitrifying bacteria to live. I went for the smaller size to maximize my biofiltration.

Also, with any disturbance to the bed, the larger particles will rise to the top. I recently read a recommendation that 10% of the DSB sould/could be larger particles (from FAMA, I think). Still plenty of controversy.

I just converted my sump to a sump/refugium using tanks dividers. I put in a 3" aragonite bed (0.2 to 1mm grain size) in the refugium section. I'll let you know how that goes.

Thanks Verbal! Please keep me informed. I haven't purchased the sand yet, waiting to see what everyone thinks is best! [smiley=laughy.gif]

I'd rank them in this order:

    1. Dolomite Sand
    2. Aragonite Sand
    3. Oolite sand
