Can I use your One and Only to cycle a QT? If so, I have a 2oz and 4oz bottle which is more than enough for my main tank(75g). Can I use a small amount of one of those bottles to cycle my QT and still use the remainder of the bottles to cycle my Main tank when it's ready(may be a couple weeks)?

IMO wait until your main tank is setup and cycled, then use water from it. Remember to feed the bacteria in the QT!

You can add it to QT, again it needs ammonia

jmann124- yes, you can use the O&O for your QT tank assuming you have something in the tank for the bacteria to colonize like a sponge filter.

And yes you can just use a little and save the rest for the main tank. make sure to shake the bottle well before pouring a portion into the QT tank.

Also just to make sure you know - if you add antibiotics or high doses of some medications that will slow/kill the O&O bacteria depending on the medication.

What, if anything, should I use for an ammonia source to cycle the QT?

My QT is only a 10g so I'm assuming it won't need much of an ammonia source.

you can get some ammonia from us or find a hardware store. I would not use the dead fish/shrimp method for a QT

Should I be looking for pure ammonia, or looking for something with the same name on your bottle?

some people use Ace hardware ammonia which is ammonium hydroxide but it is only sold in a gallon and you need a few drops. or you can get one of our bottles

I got a bottle of your ammonium chloride and I'm using API test kit.

    Day 1
I mixed 9.5g of saltwater in the QT with powerheads running for about 20 hours.

    Day 2
    I tested the water.
    5pm
    Temp - 76
    SG - slightly above 1.023
    Ph - between 8.0-8.2
    Ammonia - 0.25 ppm
    Trite - 0 ppm
    Trate - not tested

Then, I added 5 capfuls of O&O and 3 drops of ammonium chloride.

    Second test parameters:
    11pm
    Temp - 76
    SG - slightly below 1.023
    Ph - between 8.2-8.4
    Ammonia - 0.50 ppm
    Trite - 0 ppm
    Trate - not tested

I then added 1 more capful of O&O.

12 hours later I tested again.

    Day 3
    11am
    Temp - 77
    SG - slightly above 1.023
    Ph - between 7.8-8.0
    Ammonia - 0.50 ppm
    Trite - 0 ppm
    Trate - 0 ppm

Does all this sound good? Do you have anymore suggestions? I would like to put 2 clowns in this tank to quarantine tomorrow, Friday, night.
