    Is it just a 1" strip? HD Seels oak and birch iron on rolls.

    The problem you may run into is getting the paint to stock to the laminate. Sanding with about 180 grit will rough it up. The primer will also be key. I'm sure vinny knows the best primer to use. You won't want it peeling off in a year down the line.

    any recommendation for a good brush? I really don't have the area to use a sprayer

    Like Vinny mentioned earlier, you can use a brush and roller. If you get a short knap roller or will come out smoother. The foam ones work good.
