Yep ... I recently have had a power strip sizzle and melt due to water, and a small electrical fire from the T5's in my canopy. I need to get a GFCI outlet hooked up as well.

Glad to hear you and your house are OK!!

Wow that is scary. I don't think I would have slept very well after that either. I have the outlet but have just been to lazy to put it in. I think that's my project for this evening.

Yeah, electricity and SW don't mix very well.

    Glad you caught it quickly.

Glad you and the house, and fish are all ok!!!

If you got burning plastic stuff in the tank, I'd recommend running some carbon as well...

I had a heater in my tank short out... not sure if it was the toxicity of the burning plastic or the electricity, but I lost a fish due to it. I had to make an emergency trip to Wal-Mart at 1AM to get carbon (since it was so late and I didn't have any around) and was doing water changes as fast as I could make new water...

WHoa. Glad you were awake and nearby.

I put a GFCI on my new tank. I have one power-strip mounted but one I just started using last week is laying there under my fuge, time to mount that one. Thanks for the kick in the pants.

Glad everything pulled through in your tank. You know, I STILL do not have one, but I always mean to order one of those battery powered air pumps for stuff like this. SOME day I will remember. ;)

That is scary. Glad everyone is OK. Do you know what caused the drip?

glad theres wasnt any serious damage to yourself and house kacy. weve heard the gfci being preached by numerous people here, myself included. and its unfortunate that to drive the point home , something like this had to have happened. thnx for sharing your experience and hopefully getting these tanks , dwellings and people protected from a potential disaster.

I'm glad everyone/thing (minus a few electronics) are okay. So glad you were awake when it happened...

For those who are let's say, hesitating--to get a GFCI receptacle to replace one that isn't--you might consider getting a GFCI plug-in receptacle for the interim. An ounce of prevention and all that. . . ..

Glad all is well, KC. Sometimes the best advice is received from someone who's "been there, done that." Hopefully those who read your thread will fix their scenario before the unthinkable happens.
