Hey dr.tim and fellow reefers, so I just moved about 2 days ago and had no way to transport my old tank water to help with cycling my tank, but I remember that I could use o&o to get the party started so I got an 8 oz bottle for saltwater fish which I shakes well and then add the whole contents of the bottle because I was not going to need it for anything else lol, I also purchased ammonia as well which state to add one drop per gallon of water which I did, in day 1 24hours using API test kit for both ammonia and nitrite which

    Ammonia: .50
    Nitrite: .25
added 60 drops again and retest

Day 2 24 hours after first test
    Ammonia: .50
    Nitrite: .25

So the question I have am I doing everything right? How often should I test, and how often should I dose ammonia.

    Thanx folks

Yes you are heading in the right direction. Just to make sure - there are no fish in the tank, correct?

Ammonia seem to be coming down hard to tell with API test kit but it looks to be in between .25ppm - .50ppm and same goes with Nitrite but that seem to be going up, again tho hard to tell between 1.0ppm - 2.ppm at this stage is there a way to predict how much longer I have? Also I haven't added any Ammonia in 3 days should I add any in with leves this high? Thanks Doc

Since your ammonia is low I would say your nitrite has reached its highest level and should start to come down. I would add 1 drop per 2 gallons of the ammonia today (that's a half dose). Measure tomorrow - you may see a little ammonia and a bump in nitrite and by Tuesday or so be fully cycled.

    Ok so Day 6
    Ammonia: 0ppm
    Nitrite: 1.0ppm or 2.0ppm

    Day 7
    Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 1.0ppm also seem to be coming down.

So would it be ok to add two fish and a cleaner shrimp and some corals in today?

Assuming your pH is good (above 8) yes you can add a few fish and a cleaner shrimp.
