I just got home, and my derasa clam is gaping. It wasn't like this the past couple of days, but yesterday I noticed it was getting a little bit more brown. It was only about half open (in the cavity, not the shell) for the past couple days. I figured it was adapting to the light, as it might have not been as much as it was used to. The mantle has been fully open. It's still reacting well to shadows. I have 117w of 10k, and 117w of blue actinics. It's on the sand next to a rock, as I've heard they liked to be placed like that. I turned off the phosphate reactor last night and forgot to turn it back on, so it was off for a little while. Should I do anything?

every clam i put into my new tank did that for the first few days... i have no clue on the reason or cause? i just assume because of the switch...

but in all cases for me they soon stop and return to normal and are as happy as can be

Did it start immediately, or take a couple days?

Oh holy gap!!! I have never seen a clam come back from that.

I lost mine recently when the chiller pump gave out. I had no idea something was going wrong in there..... now I use 2 thermometers instead of relying soley on the chiller. We had him a long time and was quite disappointed.

Yeah, I mean, the gap is like 1/4 of the entire mantle area....

Can I use that picture online sometimes when I talk about clams gapping? I don't want to take advantage of your ill-fortune, but that's a very good pic and great angle. It could help peeps identify a "not-so-happy" clam.
