I changed the light in my Refugium to a cheap clip on fixture and one of those new energy efficient light bulbs.

I noticed that some brands have the Kelvin temperature on the package so I bought a 100w (uses 23-26 Watts) at 6500K.
Total cost was $8 for fixture and $5 for the bulb or $13.

I have since cut back to a 60 watt bulb but it still grows like wild fire.

My Cheatamorpha is growing out my A-s. I am giving it to anyone that wants it.

So there you have it. Zero Nitrates for $13.

    ...and I over feed.

In essence, your new bulb helped to lower the No3 levels, but not the way you think it did. The bulb helped the cheato to grow, as it grows, it absorbs/comsumes No3 and Po4. I think that it was your refug that kicked in. Luna

I don't have a fuge...but our nitrates are untraceable thanks to the skimmer that is normal for use on a 120 gallon...but we have it on a 46. Meaning it is total overkill. Along with overfeedings and fat, happy cownfish, my nitrates are at zero as well.

So if you have a nitrate problem:
-Use ALW for a kickin' fuge
-Get a total overkill protein skimmer
