mangroves are good for removing nitrates but they also grow slower than other macro algae.

chaeto is probably the fastest growing macro and will remove nitrates at a faster rate

    yes very true.

this is why chaeto has become the macro of choice for most reefers

Mangroves are not very good at removing nitrates, they just grow to slow.

Since you do not have a good sand bed in the tank, you will need a fuge with lots of algae growth, or a nitrate filter of some type on the tank.

Many things can help with a nitrate problem, a very good protien skimmer, limited feeding with good foods etc. But all food will cause nitrate, and you must have some export mechanism to remove it from the system or it will build up to a level that your export systems can handle.

So I would suggest a good batch of chaeto in a fuge with bright lights on it, and possible a remote deep sand bed. Both are good at nitrate reduction.

Correction; Mangrove plants are real good at absorbing nitrate. Here is a link of all the top macro, read especially on mangrove. Saltwater aquarium refugium , marine plants, algaes, nitrate reduction

The growth rate of mangroves is to slow to remove a lot of nitrate. That link does not say how fast it grows. The plant/algae that grows the fastest will remove the most nitrate. Mangroves do not grow very fast, so they can not remove lots of nitrate

Your link does not show anything about what the algae/plants really do, Besides that, that is a site that sells them, and not all retailers/manufactures are completely 100% accurate in the info they give out.

    i agree with kgross.

magroves are slow growers which means slow nitrate consumption. chaeto grows very fast and will remove nitrates much faster

What kind of filter do you have? Does it have biowheels? If so you'll need to remove them. One a week IMO.
