I am wanting to frag some of my soft coral. I know I can't glue the peices down and that I'll need them to attach to rubble by themselves.

My current plan is to put a bunch of rock rubble in a small tupperware container and put it in a low flow area.

Now, my question: I don't have any rock rubble. However, I have some (unused) pebbles that are meant for fresh water aquarium substrate. These are just pebbles, not artifically colored gravel). Would this work for my needs, or would it cause problems?

It may be fine and it may not. I would say its not worth the risk. Do you have any extra BR you could smack with a hammer??

A pebble is a rock so yes it would work fine but if your planning on selling I'm not sure that would appeal to many reefers. The Tupperware idea works well though.

not planning on selling, atleast at first. I'm looking for it mainly to help it spread through my tank, and for the practice!

And I don't have any extra rock which is the problem. I'll just have to order some next time I do a BRS order :). This was more of a "I can try it tonight" compared to waiting for my next order if this would work

    Thanks for the input!

You are assuming that all rocks are created equal which is not the case.

IDK if I'd trust the rock from the LFS's tanks lol!

Do you think crushed coral would be big enough to try? I could get that locally :p

Crushed coral should work fine. its just for the coral to grab into something and you can have something to glue it to. What softies are you planning to frag?

This is an older thread, but I did some mushrooms and some xenia (that I gave away).
