I just got a new Purple Death Zoa frag last week. It is just one polyp and it hasn't opened since I got it. Does anyone know what I can do or how to tell if it's dead? It just looks closed like they sometimes do. All the rest I got in the same shipment are fine.

    Any help? Thanks!

Lucky you! Purple Death's are beautiful and amazing!
Maybe try moving the polyp to another place within your tank as maybe it is stressed due to water flow, lighting or neighboring corals.
They are fairly resilient and should bounce back!
    Best of luck!

There is a number of reasons why it wont open, if its not open in 2 weeks, then worry. Be sure to keep in contact with the person you got it from to let them know its never opened up. I'd hate to see you lose a high $$$ polyp.

It just began to open earlier this week. G-wiz seems like it took three weeks, that is weird.

That is really not too long for paly's. It is almost expected especially when going from one extreme of a system to another.

I heard they have nudibranches that live on the zoa's and eat them from the inside out.

Then they are smart enough to make eggs in the shape of the letter "C"

They need to dip them in freshwater to make the little buggers come off and then poke each and every zoa with a toothpick to clean out their throat.

Keep me posted because I had to do that to a friends colony.

Careful not to let their spit hit your eyes cause they have poison, I wore a motorcycle helmet with the visor closed when I did that.

    Me too

Please send picv? Upload one tomorrow or we will come take your purple death from you!

Seriously though, I just got one in the mail. It seems like it has a couple of little knobs starting at the base as well, but has not opened yet. How long did yours take?
