So I needed (lol) a bigger tank was planning on a 90 but the cost of a new one is a bit much so perused Craigslist and found a reef ready 72 bowfront for $150 (which is what I bought my 46 for as well).
I plan to plug the holes and remove the internal overflow and do a Bean Animal overflow on it with a narrow internal coast to coast and a separate acrylic box to hold the bean pipes.
In addition I'll be building the stand a bit wider so the sump can sit so that the pipes go straight down into the sump.

    Thanks.
I'm a little nervous about taking out the internal overflow, but I really don't like the look and how much space it eats up.

I personally wouldn't mess with the overflow. They work well as they are. And if you remove it you have to plug up the old holes and that's just one more spot for a leak to spring up later down the road. If you do, take care that you do not damage the silicone sealing the bottom to the back/side when cutting out the overflow silicone from the corners.

So if I leave it in is it quiet? safe from overflowing, grtting plugged?

Also if I do leave it then may make a rock wall with tierd shelves not just a pile of rock.

what do you all think of the return line?

Ok so with some thinking and searching on the web I think I can just leave the corner overflow in & do a few tweaks to make it a BeanAnimal drain system: will use 1 of the pre-drilled holes for the full siphon ! for the Durso & drill 2 holes in the back for the emergency and return line (hiding them both behind the overflow so they're not seen).

Cool. I still like the safety and coast to coast surface skimming of the Bean. I have one on my 46.

I have a use for one of the bottom drilled holes.
I plan to cap them both but one will have a ball valve underneath (& barb to attach a hose to) and a short riser I can slip a barb in for an aquatic vac hose so I can clean the sandbed/do a water change easily
