I found a good deal on Craig's list a JBJ nano cube its either a 6 or 12 gallon, seller says its a 8 but I don't think they made an 8, comes with stand and everything. The light in the hood he removed, he said wires were corroded anyway its 25$ for tank, stand, and everything extra he has. Going to make it a nano reef and will have to put lights in it, any ideas on low cost options to put in the hood?

    Good deal!

You really don't need a hood, actually its better to leave it without for gas exchange.

If you can post a pic when you get it, I'm sure we can help better.

For lighting a par38 by rapid led would be great for your tank and the bulb fits into any light socket.

Does that bulb have a blue tint like actinics do? I will have coral in the tank.

75 dollars a bulb, I was hoping to spend less than that. :(

Post a picture. They have 8 gallon but I think that might be an bio cube and a really old one. I have a jbj 6 gallon and 2 hoods. There is also a cheap way to fix the ballast of these jbj cube

I pick it up Monday, I will post pics then. He said he removed the lighting part since it was corroded so I am guessing its an empty space.

Then you might as well go with a kessil or some LED.

You only need one par38 bulb for that size of tank and you probably get 3yrs before replacing it. The rapid led bulb is full spectrum, white, blue, red. That is a cheap option for reef lighting. I have yet to find cheaper options.

    Kessil $239 +.
    Ecotech is $399 +
    Ai Prime is $199+

You can go with t5 ho lighting but those fixtures aren't any cheaper and then the bulbs need replacing every 6 mnths which isn't cheap.
