so i think am ready to get my clam now :cheesy:, my LFS has a nice looking max it about 2" for 69$.

the position i have in mind for it, would have it about 10" from the light it that to far or to close or is that just right ?

i know if he dosent like the location he will move, but the hight point in the tank is where he will be place to start.

Ive got a maxima living on the bottom of a 29g tank under a 150w halide/4 bulb 36" T5 with another 3/4 of the way up the tank in the rockwork. Both settled down where they were the happiest. What lights is it under at the LFS?

If it is indeed under 2x 400w halides you should be free to start it wherever you want, thats gotta be obscenely bright in a tank that size :) Start it up higher, let it figure out where it wants to be. All of my clams have pretty much settled where they are content. One maxima was happy in the rockwork way high up, another down towards the sand.

You need to be very careful buying clams under 3". It will need constant manual feedings.
