Last night a local reefer brought over an Anenome, RBTA that we had planned to trade for.

I traded him a total of 4 different Plating Montiporas for.
I actually have several more types.

I think we were both happy with the trade.

    So now I have a M-M Carpet nem; and Watermelon BTA;

    and my newest addition:

He was nice enought to bring it on the rock it was on.

It made me realize/remember when my rocks were Purple like that.
What happened to my purple? I remhomed my Urchin, I have about 6 Turbos- I hear they eat corraline.
My Alk usually hovers around 8, what else is a factor?

I"ll wait and see if the Oc. Clown, or my huge Maroon clown will use it.
My Clarkii's not giving up his WBTA he dominates.

    Nice!

Try scraping some of that coralline and then put in in front of your power head and let it fly. I did that and raising my alk and the coralline went wild. That's about what my alk is also.
I even lost my scraper for a week (don't ask) and I had the purple stuff growing on the front glass of my DT.

So you're saying you had good results with raining your alk some?

What do you keep it at now?

I'm right around 8dkh, just like you. However, for a while there, I was not paying close enough attention to it and it was at 6dkh for the longest time. My tank took off when I brought up my alk.

honestly, I'm trying to get up to 11, dbutcher swears by it (are you here?) but I'm around 8.3. I only add enough to raise my alk 1.3dkh a day and I believe my tank is using it faster now as well.

When I scraped some coralline off my return nozzle and it blew to the other side of the tank, the coralline really started spreading too. I would notice new spots within days of the scraping.

Higher alk levels in 10 dkh range seemed to grow coralline a lot quicker.

If you read the ingredients on that "Purple Up" stuff, it's basically water, calcium, and magnesium. Try pumping up your calk/mag dose

My tank has been up for about four months. In the past year and a half I've had three different tanks and none of them ever had any Coraline algae. I've seen tanks with the whole back glass covered. I can't even get one spot.
