hi my name is miranda and I recently acquired a 100 gallon reef tank. I have zero experience and am in desperate need of some help. My skimmer stop working the other day after I unplugged it to empty the 'scum cup'. When I plugged it back in it was no longer creating bubbles within the skimmer body and I noticed water in what I believe to be the air line. I have no idea what kind of skimmer I have as there are no labels on it. If someone could please help us greatly appreciate it :)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Hi Miranda,

Sometimes the pump locks up and you have to remove the power head and clean the magnet or such. There should be some type of brand name or number some where on the body or power head. Cleaning the internals of most power heads is easy.

    :)

Edit: Turn off the pump, and reattach or clear the air tubing as well if needed.

The black cylinder you are holding looks like the muffler.... that keeps the skimmer quiet. There is usually some place on the skimmer that it mounts exposed to air. The muffler is the air intake for the bubbles. The other end of the tube should be attached somewhere close to the power head where water is sucked into the skimmer.

Thanx nasageek:) the other end of the air line is connected to the pump and the black canister was never attached to anything and worked great until I unplugged it. I'll see if there's a place to attach it but I don't think so, they previous owner had it hanging as well
