I have a 55gal tank with about 10 african cichlids, I would like to give them the best home I can and am curious if I should install a Powerhead. Will it make a difference or just a waste of money.

    Help Please

most cichlid tanks i see don't have them, but i think one or two broad flows my be beneficial. it will help keep areas of the tank clean and prevent algae. i wouldn't go crazy with the flow since they come from lakes.

i would point it near the bottom of ornaments where detritus builds up. if you have sand that you cant gravel vac i would try to station it so it blows above the sand bed.

What type of filtration or other sources of water movement do you have in the tank?
Honestly IMO not needed. We used to breed them and never ran a single powerhead on any of our tanks.
