Well changed plans in plumbing my new tank...went from being plumbed soft tubing with pump insump to PVC plumbing with pump being external. GRRRR! I have mapped out the drain flow pipe so that it is going to drain onto a bed of live rubble but am very confused how to manage the pump...I have not seen nor had a external pump before! I have a Mag 12 pump...and the sump is predrilled. The tank is a 72g reef ready...question is how do I connect the pump to the overflow? I know I have to connect the pump to the connection that is on the sump..but do I rig a pipe to go to the jet part of the of the overflow? And if so do I connect that part up to the part where prefilter sponge normally would go or to the outflow part....

I apologize for sounding so dumb....I am not this dumb Just never have done it. Mapped everything out with the store owner for insump pump and then realized the pump is designed for extenal pump! Which is actually good because it will give me a the ability to add the coil denitrator that I bought for Tangster that I could not add in my other tank!

Here are my pictures for further guidance

this is where the pump is to go into the sump....

this is the sump it self...already has a place built in for ATO...and to the left is where I am going to place LR and the pipe is going to run into that

I would be the same as a submerged pump but just sitting outside the water. Just put a valve on the output side of the pump for metering the flow. Never restrict the feed for the pump as you will burn it up.
