Name that Algae

    Ok guys, I have this weird algae growing in my tank.
    There is two main spots of it and the two spots are different kinds of algae.
    Here is a picture of the first spot. (sorry my clowns wouldn't get out of the way) its not the best picture but you can see the basic shape. they are circular and have runners.

    Here is another spot. this is fan like and also has runners.

    so these are good?
    its weird because they just showed up a few months ago and the tank has been up for 10 months and I havn't added any new LR.

    Well, caulerpa will take over your tank as well as the grape. These macro alagaes are good in that they remove some bad stuf from the water. They are bad because they can drop your pH during the night and may go asexual and kill things in your tank. I would do my best to remove the algae from the tank. Whether it be by using tangs, physical removal, or bleaching the rocks they are on, I think they should go.

    Do you have a refugium?

    They will not hurt anything, actually, they will improve your water quality. However, they are very fast growing and can take over a tank quickly. If you had a refugium, you could pull it all out and put it in there.

    I have a HOB refugium with chaeto and red stuff that i got from RC as penny macro

    Pull them out and throw them away, or possibly offer them locally to a fellow reefer.
