It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Are you sure it's an Acropora.

    Looks like Seriatopora hystrix/Birds nest.

Nope, I'm not sure at all lol.

After a quick good search, I believe you're correct. It has a green sheen too it with pink tips (growth?).

    Looks like this:[IMG]

It has very pointed tips from what I can see from the image. Very indistinct corallite structure. They are wonderful fast growing hardy corals once established.

For some reason your last image I am not able to view.

Just google "images of birdsnest corals" .

How can I improve my polyp extension during the day? It has great coloration, but the polyp extension doesn't seem to be at 100%.

if it has great coloration and seems to be growing then i wouldnt worry about PE too much. I just read the other day that PE is determined by the amount of food available.... not enough food = more PE, enough food = less PE.

Cant believe everything you read on the internet but i read this from a trusted member on 3reef.

That makes sense, so I could see that being true. I guess my concern is that the polyps contain the symbiotic zooxanthellae that carry out the photosynthesis. If they're not at full extension, will growth be stunted?

It has grown a lot in the month that I've had it, but I don't have a reference for growth rate. It could be growing much slower than other colonies of this species.

Notice the growth (pic 1 was taken 1 month earlier than pic 2):
