I had a thread about my wonderful Green Pocillipora, which grew from golf ball to Soft ball size that mysteriously began shedding polyps and now is basically a skeleton.

Now my Valydia, which grew from about 3cm to a nice sized colony, is showing signs that's freaking me out!

Everything else, coral, params, etc. are fine!

Any ideas? Is this just new growth? 'cause it never looked like this before.

Any better pictures? cleaner? Could be alk. swings if it isn't growth tips. Have you every noticed growth tips? If not, it's likely not it.

I had two acros do this slightly without any explanation. One bleached and came back, the other saw some spots of bare skeleton and grew back over it. So there's some hope.

Sorry to hear about your corals. That looks like a really beautiful colony and seemingly very healthy. Do you run GFO? I read that if you strip water of phosphate it can cause stn. I also agree with Kevin about the possibility of an alk swing

I've heard that corals can send out distress signals to others causing the problem to spread. I haven't observed this happen but maybe its possible.

If it gets worse I would frag a good piece off and move it elsewhere in the tank but hopefully it heals and you wont have to.

sorry for the loss....hope you can determine the cause. I know I burn some frags recently due to stripping phosphates too fast.

Is it definitive that the coral has STN or bleaching? I'm not knowledgeable about SPS but since it's just the tips, couldn't that mean it's growing?
