I wouldn't put your glass tops on..that will hold in the heat. get a small fan to blow across the water. that will lower the temp a few degrees.

Glblguy....yeah 80-82 is too high...do you have algae problems from that high of a temp? temp should range from 72-79 from everything I've ever read. I like mine at 77 and I think my inhabitants like it too.

No, I don't think so. I've always had some bubbles though due to the skimmer.

Well, I've read a great deal about "ideal temperature", and it seems to be a debated topic. I've been following Melev who hangs out on Reef Central and is one of the hosts of ReefCast. He recommends keeping a reef tank around 81 degrees, as that is the average reef temperature in nature.

I know it's a debated topic, and by no means can argue either way. What are your thoughts?

Well, I do, but my tank is still fairly new, so not sure if its temps or just new tank syndrome causing it.

The only draw back that I can think of right now is, at that temp(80-82) your O2 levels are at its lowest.

    FYI....cuttingras is a her, not a his:hehe:
As for my temp. between 77-79. Unfortunately, there are many conflicting opinions out there, you have to find the one that works best for your system. Remember, every system is different, what works for me, might not work for you and visa versa

Nice looking light fixture. I thought I got a deal with the Finnex 150mh 2/28t-5 But this looks a bit better of a deal. I think I will keep the 36" version in mind for my 55 build somewhere down the road. Did you change out the bulb or know what brand it comes with?
