FIX: Soak in vinegar/water solution, then rinse with plain RO/DI freshwater.

BETTER FIX: Toss it and get a refractometer or lab-grade floating glass hydrometer. Those cheap hydrometers are just that- cheap and inaccurate.

+2 IMO, the better fix is the only option. Too many problems and too much risk.

Do you rinse it after ease use in tap or RO/DI water, after each use?
HOw do you know it's wrong, float not moving at all, ever?

    Refractometer?
Maybe I'll have to get one! ;-)

Soak it at least overnight in straight white vinegar.
It should be rinsed in water after each use and soaked overnight in vinegar once a week or every two weeks depending on how often you use it.
