I have been wanting to change my coral rubble substrate into a sand substrate. So what, in your experience, is the most atractive and bio filtration wise effective type of sand?

If you dont spring for the fiji pink sand which is GREAT, just get reefrocks.net, pre rinsed and a nice mixed grade of medium to sugar sized. Settles down nicely and cna take some good flow, but will blow around a bit. But best sand I've ever got.

hy is fiji pink so nice? Does it jsut have a nice color or is it the fact that it doesnt show dirt/alage real easily and has a nice uniform grain size?

Tropic Eden Reef Flakes mixed with Tropic Eden Mini Flakes at about 2:1 ratio.

That combo is good enough for sand sifting fish/critters and should not blow around. Looks great too.

I have a combination of aragonite medium sized grain sand and crushed coral and really like the combination. I do notice that the crushed coral does need to be vacuumed and holds some detritus but it really looks very nice and clean.....

i'm looking into the fiji pink myself. i was going to buy from marine depot since i would have gotten free shipping with my tunze ato... however i flaked on the ato and now im still looking for a place with good prices and shipping for the fiji pink.

i might try my local petco who sometimes price matches.
