I guess that's the trade off for not drilling the tank or getting built in overflows.
I have the old schoole over flow. I don't get air trapped unless hair algae and coraline algae starts growing in the tube.
Some other forum said he used black tape around the overflow tube to stop the growth of anything within the tube. I have not tried this as I just buy a new tube when the old one gets to bad.
I built one of these this past weekend with My buddy NUGIO for my tank. It works great, has really quieted things down. I still have one problem though; every now and then I get the rushing water sound going through the pipe, any ideas on how to fix this?
Sorry I'm just catching this post now.
You can change the height of the whole construct, the size and/or number of water holes, the size and/or number of air holes in the endcap, and the length of CPVC that you use.
The overflow really just needs to be tweaked to match the output from your return pump. In the past, I've used duct tape to cover up holes. I honestly spent several hours messing around with an over-drilled prototype (with extra air and water holes) and a few different lengths until I found a configuration that worked for me. Then I fabricated one based on the prototype.
Trial and error. (and of course, some frustration)
Thanks Verbal! My problem seemed to be too much waterflow from my overflow box to my sump. Creating the sucking/gurgleing sound every now and then. So I closed the ball valve a little bit going to the sump. Thanks to the Durso and a little tweaking, my wife can sleep now!
Oh, and thanks to all of you who have helped me out. Karma for everyone [smiley=cool3.gif] !
