ok guys, im only seventeen and i love to do DIY stuff, so i came with this idea last month.
i use to have a 29g tank and finally wanted a bigger tank now, but the problem is that i im not rich!
    well,i was not going to get a [700g tank] or something like that,{i wish}
so my brother told me that this lady was selling a 55g tank for 60 bucks, everyone have this tanks!!! so i gave it a shot. i dont like 55g tanks because they are long and tall, and not 2 wide!!!!!!!!!!! i hate! it!! because its impossible to put the live rock in the tank without hitting the glass!! .
i also would have to get a new light,i also hate that brace that the tank comes with.
so i was thinking and this idea came to my mind!!
i love and would like a shallow tank, so. i came with an idea to transform this 55g tall-wide tank into a 55g shallow tank!! you be surprised!
i took all the tank frame off[braces] it was a pain!!
then i removed the front panel of the tank[48in long and 22in high]
i took the panel to a glass shop to get it cut to this dimensions[48inx14]but the guy said it was tempered glass, you probably know what happened,
so i had to get another glass from him cut to the right size[$32]
here is the tank without the front panel and sideways
    [IMG]
and this is how its going to be install
    [IMG]
the new cut glass goes on what it use to be the top of the tank[where the brace use to be]
i have glued the glass panel now with silicone.
so this bottom pic is how its going to look like!!!!!!!!
so the tank came with a wood stand , i just had to hammer a 1/2 48in x24in wood on top.
this is how it looks like!!! you guys like it?? i love it!!

Very cool idea.love the new look of it...but is it going to be able to handle the outward pressure(long term) with out some kind of bracing..the 55 im have now was not leveled right(ever so slightly off)and over thepast 2 yrs the top brace cracked away from the tank(outward pressure)....but over all great job..
