I have a Beta that has been in a one gallon bowl for about six months. Yesterday I did my routine water change. Today upon coming home from work, I went to feed it and it is missing. Are they jumpers? I have searched the area and can not find it.

Very well could have jumped out. Stranger things have happened and I have heard of stories of this happening. I think every fish is capable of jumping out of water. It's just swimming really fast toward the surface so it doesn't require any special abilities.

If this is the case, I am sorry for your loss. I have a betta named Chip and he is my little buddy and I would be really sad if anything happened to him. Did you know betta fish have to get to the surface of the water to breathe? They have gills but a majority of the air they breathe is from the surface. If they don't surface to breathe they will suffocate. Interesting tid bit of info there. Take care.

I don't have a cat or animail that would have ate it. I did know that the go to the surface to breathe. Occasionally the fish does swim pretty aggresively. I just want to find it. Their really is no other explainaitioin than jumping.

Well bad news, found it on the floor under the end table. Bummer.

    FYI. Betta's are jumpers.
