I just got a Red Sea MG Test Kit, I tested for MG for the 1st time.
I got 860, Is it possible to be this low? My Ca & Alk are 450 & 10.
    Help?

After reading your other thread I'm guessing the result is wrong due to user error. Try retesting and if it's possible take a sample of tank water to a LFS if you have one that does testing. They'll give you a more accurate base number.
Don't dose or try to correct anything until you're sure the results you are getting are right.
I said it before and I'll say it again..I really don't like RedSea test kits.

1st time I tested was wrong for sure, It read 500. 2nd time I did it carefully knowing how to do it and it read 860.

Also you want to raise it slowly. Don't make a jump from 850 to 1400 in one day but spread it out. Or just do a big water change today and tomorrow with a quality salt and raise it that way.

if you mag was that low, your calcium and alk probly wouldnt be that high. IMHO

put 2ml tank water in main test tube.
put 5 drops total of bottle A, make sure to do 1 drop at a time and shake 15seconds between drops.

put 5 drops of bottle B, shake for 2 seconds. put test tube down for 1 minute.

then fill syringe with 1.0 ml of Bottle C, inject .4ml of bottle C regment into test tube. shake for 5 seconds. inject 1 to 2 drops and shake for 5 seconds again. once that nice navy blue color shows up in the test tube. report back whats left in syringe to us!

don't raise Mg more than 100 points per day. I don't particularly like raising it that much many days in a row either... I'd space it.

Having said that (and without having read your other thread), Red Sea Mg test is very prone to user error. The most finicky test i have ever used.

I replaced it with Salifert... extremely easy to do.
