I was looking at the start up costs of a 50gal Rubbermaid stock tank (52x31x12) plumbed into a 70gal Rubbermaid sump/fuge (40x32x24.) with liverock and chaeto.

As the saying goes "Metal halides grow corals, LEDs sell corals." Well, I only know a little about LED fixtures, and really little about MH and T5.

What kind of MH would you put on this frag tank setup? How many would you need, or would you use a track to move the light? Treat me like I'm 5, if you please.

it's my understanding that stock tanks are widely used for propagation tanks on the hobbyist level. the other alternative would be white aquafarming trays, like the ones used in hydroponics applications.

Heat would be my concern with such a shallow unit. Water may heat up quickly.
