    How likely?

Researching my next fish and these seem really awesome. I've read they are great jumpers but it mainly has to do with their comfort level. Also read the lights can spook them to the point of flight (but I run a dusk/dawn effect)?

My tank is Eurobraced (3" width) and my lights are about 4-5" of the surface.

Will I need a cover with this fish?

Sure will IME/IMO. It may last, it may not, why chance it? Given their flight from fright is straight up usually, I wouldn't chance it.

I'm starting to see a trend here...

So, regarding egg crate on top...how much does that hinder lighting?

theres quite a few building bird netting covers. doesnt block the lighting anywhere near as much , and looks better. kcbrad just showed off hers that she did recently.

right on divott, thanks for the suggestion - I'll check out that thread.

although, I might just find another fish that doesn't take flight...

Egg crate is not a valid solution because these fish are too small. I had one jump through egg crate. Try and get 1/4" mesh/pond netting and use a screen frame if possible.

Totally agree. I have acrylic covers on my tank with holes drilled in them to allow air flow. They are such good jumpers that this morning, mine jump into my overflow box. The box was covered by the lids so there was only about 1/2" of room to jump, and he did it. I also had one die because he jumped. I had him for about a month and then found him dead one day.
