maxima clam started to melt

    recieved a maxima clam, acclimated him to tank. all parameters are fine. he looked good for a couple hours then out of no where it looked like his membrane started to disintigrate and he would shoot it out his other mouth. i swear im not going crazy this really happened. his coloring still looks goog but hes missing half a membrane. anyone ever had this happen?

    Welcome to 3reef, your tank parameters are kinda necessary. What kind of lights do you have? what other inhabitants are in the tank?

    thanks for replying. its a biocube hqi 30 gallon 150 watt.

    ammo 0
    ph 8.1
    nitrate and nitrite 0
    phos 0

    he was doing fine for the first couple hours then i dont know what happened. he coloring still looks great hes just missing half his membrane

    the other fish r 2 clownfish, six line wrasse, dartfish. and reef safe cleanup crew

    Pictures speak a thousand words. It would probably be easier to assist you if you're able to post one.

    That being said, how did you acclimate the clam? I know, like most inverts, they're sensitive to rapid fluctuations in parameters - but I've never heard of one "melting" (though I'm not THAT clam savvy).

    not so my friend, its summer time and finals wk for many, so it get pretty dead around here during that time.

    cal at 460 is good.
    what is your Mag and Alk at ?
    your light is it a 150 watt MH ?
    where was your clam placement?

    posting a pic will give us a better idea of what you are seeing

    Also may want to inspect his shell carefully and look for snails.;)
